Officials from America have visited Birmingham to discuss the details for a proposed training camp for athletes, which would be based in the city in July 2017. They visited various sites across the city on 27th October, including the Birmingham High Performance Centre and Alexander Stadium, which is where the US athletes would finalise their preparations for next August’s IAAF World Championships in London. They also met with representatives from Birmingham City Council, who are coordinating arrangements for the camp. Artworks by city artist Reuben Colley are now available for sale at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Birmingham born artist Reuben Colley became one of the youngest living artists to see his work enter the museum’s permanent collection in 2003. The star of stage and the small screen died today (17th March) after being diagnosed with a brain tumour last month. Jimmy Carlo, a member of the Birmingham-based British Magical Society, said he would be sorely missed. “We worked together and he was a good friend,” Jimmy said. “He helped me in my career – it’s such a sad loss. “Paul was the best television magician there was.” The 77-year-old died at his Berkshire home with his wife and long-term assistant Debbie McGee alongside him.…

The national deafblind charity Sense held a ground-breaking ceremony for TouchBase centre in Selly Oak this week. Construction has begun on the new £14million TouchBase Centre for the deafblind community in Birmingham on 7th March and will bring many benefits to the people of Selly Oak according to Sense. A Birmingham security guard is fighting to stay fit to donate his kidney to his wife. Rae and Shelley Black, who both work at Millennium Point in the City Centre, have been married for 12 years with two boys aged 13 and 17. But in 2011 Shelley was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, which causes kidney functions to lower. A Birmingham-bound train was forced to make an emergency stop this morning after smoke began billowing from it. The Cross Country Trains service was heading from Manchester when the incident happened at 8am. Passengers were forced to evacuate the train during an emergency stop in Stafford. A spokesperson for Cross Country Trains said the smoke was caused by an issue with a stuck brake pad. “Customers were not in any danger as train and station staff acted quickly and cautiously,” they said. “We apologise for any delays caused to passengers today as a result.” Commuters took to social media during the…

A new community centre for the deafblind in Selly Oak will make a positive impact on the area, according to the boss of charity Sense. Sense is a charity that has been going for 60 years.
