A fundraising bid to keep bees buzzing in Brum has been launched.
Friends of the Earth Birmingham is hoping to raise £600 to buy new hives.
The charity has been renting hives in Digbeth but now hopes to make the arrangement more permanent.
A spokesperson said: “Bees are endangered, especially in cities. Having the hives in our community garden has dramatically increased bee activity and has played an important role in supporting the local flora massively.
“The beehives enable us to educate the importance of protecting the bees and pass on the knowledge to our future volunteers.
“The hives themselves cost £400 and the remainder of the money will be spent on sending volunteers on a beekeeping course and to pay for the equipment needed to maintain the hives.”
People can donate to the cause via an online fundraising page.
