Passengers flying from Birmingham are being asked to donate to an appeal in aid of earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Estimates say around 17,000 people have died in the countries since the quake earlier this week, with many more still missing.

Airline easyJet says it will launch onboard collections on its services from Saturday (11th February) in aid of UNICEF’s emergency appeal.

The initiative will run for two weeks – a period which the company says will see it transport more than 2.7million passengers.

A spokesperson said: “The funds raised from the collections will go directly towards supporting UNICEF’s round-the-clock emergency response in the region, to help provide urgent support to the children who have lost their homes, sleeping rough and those who have been separated from their families.”
