The award-winning musical Hamilton will go from Broadway to Birmingham as it embarks on a first UK tour.

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s play will be opening in the city on 25th June for a ten-week season ending on 31st August.

Winner of 11 Tony awards, including best musical, seven Olivier awards, the 2016 Grammy award for Best Musical Theatre Album, as well as the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the musical tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton’s rise through the ranks of the revolutionary army.

A spokesperson for the Birmingham Hippodrome said: “Hamilton is the story of an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and helped shape the very foundations of the America we know today.

“The score blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway – the story of America then, as told by America now.”

Tickets for Hamilton will be available online.
