A Midlands water company is creating over 100 new apprentice roles.

Positions are available in roles ranging from operations to finance with Severn Trent.

The Coventry-based company provides services to more than four million businesses and households in Wales and across the Midlands.

Birmingham resident Nathan Worton is currently in his third year of an apprenticeship with the company.

The 34-year-old decided a job in HR would be the ideal career move after years of working in retail and studying psychology, so he joined Severn Trent in 2020 as a HR apprentice.

Nathan said: “I was drawn to Severn Trent as not only are they a big local company, but they have great rewards and benefits and seemed to really look after and value their employees.

“My apprenticeship has given me loads of opportunities and I have done tonnes of development and have access to so much training and support.

‘’Not only that though, I have had the opportunity to become a mentor in the community, have volunteering days that I can choose how I use them. I have also been involved with Pride events and raising money for WaterAid.

‘’The different things to get involved with are endless, all while still working on my apprenticeship, earning a salary and getting heaps of valuable experience.

‘’I’d really encourage anyone who’s even just thinking about a change or looking to start their career, to explore what’s available as Severn Trent really is much more than just a water company.”

An apprenticeship is a paid position that provides the worker with experiences and knowledge. Participants complete classroom-based study with a college, university, or training provider for at least 20% of their working hours in addition to on-the-job skilling.

Jade Pearson, new talent lead at Severn Trent said: ‘’We’re lucky that we have such a varied programme, and so many different options for people to consider – and this year we’ve even added seven new different programmes.

“While we do have the vital operational, technical and engineering roles that you’d expect with a water company to help keep everything flowing, we also now have roles within software development, digital tech design and governance, as well as business, finance, environment, cyber security and even an opportunity to work in our laboratories.

‘’Our roles are as diverse as the region we live and work in, so there’s something for everyone to explore, no matter where you’re from or who you are.”

Severn Trent’s apprenticeships allow people the chance to learn and earn, and if they successfully pass, are guaranteed a job at the FTSE 100 company.

Prospective candidates can explore the available positions on the company’s website. Applications close on 29th March.
