    The collapse and liquidation of Carillion has dramatically unfolded over the last few days, leaving a company with a dominating global presence dethroned from its former glory.

    With thousands of jobs at risk and a debt of £1.5 billion, several projects including parts of the Paradise project in Birmingham and the building of the HS2 have been hit. The crisis has triggered debates on handing out government contracts to private firms and the repercussions of doing so.
