He succeeds Steve Gerrard who was sacked after a 3-0 defeat against Fulham.

Emery will move to Villa Park from Villarreal where he won the European League in 2021 before reaching the Champions League semi-final last season.

He has previously managed the likes of Sevilla and Paris St Germain.

Emery will take up his position on 1st November, meaning caretaker boss Aaron Danks will remain in charge for Villa’s trip to Newcastle.
