Popular Digbeth nightclub The Rainbow Venues will close their doors officially after the decision by Birmingham City Council on Tuesday to revoke their license.
West Midlands Police asked the council for a review of the club’s licence at the start of November, after the second drug-related death in two years for the venue.
Police also told the licensing sub-committee that they had been shown a Snapchat video reportedly taken inside the venue that shows a fifteen year old boy who appears to be under the influence of drugs.
The Rainbow Venues acknowledged that there was an issue with drugs being bought in to the club but emphatically denied that it’s their premises in the Snapchat video, arguing that the lighting, fire exit positions, and ceiling height doesn’t line up with any of part of the club’s multiple venues.
City Council are expected to release a document in the next few days that will explain their decision in full, and in the meantime The Rainbow Venues has twenty one days to appeal the decision to Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.
