SEE: 50 pictures that prove marathons are the new Halloween

The Birmingham marathons successfully took place on Sunday. Aside from the Birmingham International Marathon, runners could participate in the Simplyhealth Great Birmingham Run to run a half-marathon or a 10 km distance.

Running contests always are a lively and colorful event worth attending, even if you’re not into running yourself. While many runners mostly worry about finishing the race, others are here for the entertainment. With cracking results.

As in any crowd, some people feel a powerful need to stand out, to look different, or simply to surprise others.

For some reason, running contests are great for that. Zombie Run and Color Me Rad are much more about looking great than competitively finishing the race. But doing it in the traditional marathons is still a thing and will probably be for a while.

You can also mix this pleasure with a very noble cause, even breaking an amusing world record on your way to the finish line.

For this reason, the running contests of this Sunday, October 15th were giving us further reasons to love marathons as either a spectator or a casual runner. Enjoy these 50 pictures above to prove it (you can zoom any of them by clicking on it).
