A Birmingham-based candle company are being featured in the Royal Wedding collection in the lead-up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding this Saturday.

Established 4 years ago, Hampton Candles are based in Balsall Common. Inspired by the famous Jo Malone candles, the local firm started by making the candles from their home but have since expanded into a small workshop.

Owners of the company Jo Sloan and Alison Dowie have known each other since they were teenagers.

“Our paths have crossed over a number of years,” says Jo. “Alison had the business and was already making candles.

“She asked me whether I wanted to join forces and I did. Luckily it turned out to be a success!”

The business partners applied for the royal wedding opportunity after seeing the job advertised.

“They had never done a commemorative candle before, so it brings something different to the Buckingham Palace shop!”

The commemorative candles are being sold on the Royal Collection shop and in the Buckingham Palace souvenir shop.

Sloan sees the release as a big achievement, explaining the growth in the business as “little acorns”.

And now Jo hopes for the company to go international.

“From this collaboration, we hope that this will branch out even further. Possibly even international!

“We’re just two people who really love to make candles and we’re proud of what we have produced.”

You can find Hampton Candles on the Royal Collection shop or the Hampton Candles website.
