An award-winning TV series is set to take viewers behind the scenes at a Birmingham hospital.

The BAFTA award-winning programme, produced by Dragonfly, features more than 30 soon-to-be-parents and the maternity teams, including midwives from the Delivery Suite and Birth Centre.

The specialist hospital sees over 8,000 babies being delivered a year, making it one of the country’s busiest maternity units.

Sarah-Jane Marsh, Chief Executive of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, said:

“We cannot wait to invite the nation into our Women’s Hospital, offering viewers a flavour of the dedication, skill and compassion of the amazing teams on our Maternity Unit, who are by the side of thousands of families each year through their pregnancy, birthing journey and beyond.

“No two days are the same, and each and every birth brings a special story as babies are welcomed into the world, changing lives forever.

“We are truly delighted to have worked together with our friends at Dragonfly to capture and share just some of these moments through One Born Every Minute, and to leave the families we showcase with a permanent record of this momentous time.”

This is the show’s 11th series and has featured numerous hospitals across the UK since it first aired in 2010.

The last three series have been filmed at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

    Denise Mather, Series Producer, said:

“We have a fantastic mix of emotional, dramatic and funny stories in this series – including Ben who suffers sympathy pains and faints during the birth, Samantha who was diagnosed with Leukaemia as a child and suffers a potentially fatal haemorrhage, and Elizabeth & David who met through a Harry Potter fan site – and are now expecting their own magical miracle.

“Eagle eyed viewers may also recognise Sunny and Shay who have previously featured in Channel 4’s ‘The Family’ and who are now starting a family of their own.”

This isn’t the first time that Dragonfly has set shows in the West Midlands – it also made the BBC1 documentary series Ambulance, which followed the work of the West Midlands Ambulance Service, and Channel 4’s Inside Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

One Born Every Minute starts on Wednesday 7th March at 9pm on Channel 4.
