The Flapper and Firkin on Cambrian Wharf could be demolished and replaced with apartments if plans go ahead.

An online petition has been launched in a bid to halt any plans.

But a post on the venue’s Facebook page said no final decision had been made: “We are all understandably upset by the news. We love The Flapper very much and we know you all love her as well.

“We understand word is spreading fast, but we don’t actually know all the details yet. Until then it’s business, beer, gigs and rock ‘n’ roll as usual.

“The last thing the venue needs is word spreading that The Flapper is 100% closing – that will indeed devastate the venue.”

The petition was started by Will Edwards who said it was important the strength of feeling about the plans were known.

He said: “It is an incredible place with a great atmosphere. There’s always excellent service and always excellent performances by the bands.

“Help save this amazing venue.”
