A Birmingham magician has paid tribute to his “good friend” Paul Daniels.

The star of stage and the small screen died today (17th March) after being diagnosed with a brain tumour last month.

Jimmy Carlo, a member of the Birmingham-based British Magical Society, said he would be sorely missed.

“We worked together and he was a good friend,” Jimmy said.

“He helped me in my career – it’s such a sad loss.

“Paul was the best television magician there was.”

The 77-year-old died at his Berkshire home with his wife and long-term assistant Debbie McGee alongside him.

His family broke the news of his brain tumour in February forcing the cancellation of a number of shows.

Another member of the British Magic Society Bob Cockbill, said he would be fondly remembered by all performers.

“I was going to see him in May with 500 more magicians,” he said. “It’s a very sad time.”
