Match preview: Cardiff City v Aston Villa

Aston Villa will be looking to kickstart their Championship season as they travel to Cardiff City.

Steve Bruce’s men let all three points slip out of their grasp against Hull City on the opening day.

A midweek win over Colchester United in the Carabao Cup will have given the club some confidence, but the Villa boss will be keen to get a win on the board in the league as soon as possible.

Last season saw both sides pick up a win each in their Championship meetings, goals from Albert Adomah, Jonathan Kodjia and Rudy Gestede giving Villa a 3-1 win in Wales in November, before a solitary Joe Ralls strike earned revenge for the Bluebirds in the first game of 2017.

Villa are likely to be without youngster Andre Green for the trip to Wales after he picked up a groin injury in midweek. He’ll join long-term absentees Kodjia, Mile Jedinak and Jack Grealish on the sidelines.

Neil Warnock’s men will be looking to make it two wins out of two against Midlands clubs after they saw off Burton Albion on the opening day.
