A Brexit academic says a second referendum would not diminish democracy, but could help due to the public being more informed than three years ago on what Brexit means.

“You’re not betraying the vote, people have the right to change their mind, just like I would if I think the evidence would change or if I’m aware of something I wasn’t three years ago.”
Alex De Ruyter, Director of Centre for Brexit Studies was speaking at theCentre for Brexit Studies Annual Conference in London.
“That’s not anti-democratic and it’s a bit sad that in some corners it could be seen as alienating people who felt like they weren’t being listened to, but if you’re asked to vote again you would be listened to and if the same result occurred that would be the end of the matter, because knowing what we know now adds further legitimacy to another vote.”
