The performers from ACE dance and music in Digbeth were among 2,000 dancers who took part in the 50th Leeds West Indian Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday.

The group even scooped the Best Troupe award for their routine on the day – having also won the prize on previous visits in 2013 and 2014.

Artistic director Gail Parmel, who is originally from Leeds, said: “I am extremely proud to have achieved another first place for Best Troupe in this 50th anniversary Leeds West Indian Carnival.

“It has been an awe inspiring past few months preparing and making what began as an idea and a dream, into a beautiful, visual spectacle of dance music and theatre, a moving tapestry on the streets of Leeds.

“Much hard work, many late nights and a lot of dedication from the ACE dance and music team together with a truly supportive network of Parents of ACE has enabled community cohesion and professional practice to work in harmony.”

Crowds closer to home will get the chance to see their award-winning routing at the Birmingham Weekender on September 23rd.

ACE dance and music will be bringing its award-winning Leeds routine to the Birmingham Weekender on Saturday 23 September – see the festival website for further details.
