Birmingham born artist Reuben Colley became one of the youngest living artists to see his work enter the museum’s permanent collection in 2003. Colley’s work has won awards in the Birmingham Open and West Midlands Open art competitions.

His original paintings have been snapped up by collectors both in the UK and abroad, while signed limited editions of his work are also highly sought-after.  Robin Simon, the editor of the British Art Journal said Colley “has the crucial eye for an image”

Selected signed limited editions of Colley’s ‘City Living’ paintings, which depict Birmingham city centre, are now on display in the Bridge Cafe in Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.

There are 25 ‘City Living’ limited editions available, and the full range can be ordered through the museum shop. Sales will contribute to the work of Birmingham Museums Trust, an independent charity that manages the city’s museum collection and venues on behalf of Birmingham City Council.

20-year-old Vanessa Jarrett, who studied art, said: “I think it’s a great idea. Birmingham would benefit from the contributions taken from the sales, as it will help go towards bringing in more exotic, or more well-known pieces to the museum, which clearly benefits both the money side of this and also bring a larger group of people to the museum, and allow more people to get their work out there and more well known.”

  1. Reuben Colley is one of #Birmingham’s best contemporary artists. This former pupil of Birmingham’s Handsworth Grammar School has his own gallery on the corner of Colmore Row and Bennett’s Hill in the city centre
