An art project featuring two Birmingham community groups will take centre stage at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Members of Nechells Outreach Centre and Pannel Croft Village have helped create the Windrush Path of Illumination.

The walkway shares visual images designed to reflect the journey of those who embarked on the historical journey to Britain aboard HMT Empire Windrush.

The project will form part of the Illuminated Arboretum event taking place at the centre for remembrance in Staffordshire.

Rachel Smith, head of participation at the National Memorial Arboretum, said: “As part of our Guiding Lights project, we have worked with over 650 people from school and community groups, aged from five to 95 years old, to weave together arts, culture, history, reflection and remembrance.

“Available for visitors to explore throughout our normal opening hours and as part of Illuminated Arboretum, the installations reflect our commitment to passing the baton of remembrance to future generations.”

Tickets for Illuminated Arboretum are £24 for adults and £14 for children. Under fives and carers go free. For more details and to book, visit the National Memorial Arboretum website.
