The masked man targeted the Simply Local shop on Harlech Close with a concealed weapon at 8pm on June 28th. He threatened staff before snatching money from the till.

But as he tried to escape, the shopkeeper struck the robber across the face and hand with a spanner.

DC Stuart Parker, from West Midlands Police CID, said: “Despite the traumatic situation the shopkeeper was extremely brave and refused to be intimidated by the masked raider.

“We believe the robber would have been left with marks to his face and hand – which would have been visible to those who knew him.

“We would ask for anyone with suspicions about how a friend or relative suffered such injuries to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can trace whoever was responsible.”

The shopkeeper was left with bruising to his arm and eye following the incident. The robber is described as black and of muscular build.
