An airline has launched a new route between Birmingham and Lisbon.

The easyJet service will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays and becomes the tenth direct link operated by the company from Birmingham Airport.

The news comes after the airline also celebrated carrying more than three million passengers this year.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager said: “We are delighted to celebrate our tenth route taking off from Birmingham, which is already proving popular for our customers travelling for leisure and business alike.

“Over the past year we’ve continued growing our operations at Birmingham, serving more customers and offering more connections to a greater range of destinations than ever before and, following our biggest ever summer at the airport, we remain focused on offering great value and more choice for our customers in the Midlands.

“I would like to thank our fantastic customers to choosing to fly with easyJet and we can’t wait to welcome more customers on board.”

The airline launched operations at Birmingham airport 15 years ago with a link to Geneva in 2007.

Tom Screen, aviation director for Birmingham Airport, said: “We are thrilled easyJet is expanding its offering from Birmingham Airport.

“Lisbon is a magnificent city which I know will be very popular with customers across the West Midlands region and beyond.”

The airline has also confirmed the return of a course aiming to help those scared of taking to the skies.

The Fearless Flyer programme will help nervous travellers overcome their fears.

It takes place on 4th December. Places can be booked at fearlessflyer.easyjet.com
