Taylor Swift has been revealed as the most streamed artist of 2023, according to Spotify.
The announcement was made following the streaming platform’s release of their annual musical showcase, Spotify Wrapped, on the 29th November.
The “Cruel Summer’’ singer, fended off competition from the likes of Bad Bunny, The Weeknd and Drake.
Swift’s yearly accrued streams of 26.1 billion, smashed Bad Bunny’s tally of 18.5 billion from the previous year.
The American songstress also held two singles within the top ten most streamed songs for 2023, (“Cruel Summer”, and “Anti-Hero”) in turn being the only artist to do so this year.
In response on her social media, as well as in a video message to fans, the 33 year-old expressed her joy at the unprecedented achievement:
“Um ok this is unreal?? I just wanted to say to anyone who listened to my music this year, anywhere in the world, thank you. Getting named Spotify’s Global Top Artist in 2023 is truly the best birthday/holiday gift you could’ve given me.” – Taylor Swift on X
Following the announcement, fans were later rewarded with the release of a new single: “You’re Losing Me (From the Vault)”.
Taylor Swift also dominates when assessing monthly listening statistics, achieving the most streams of any artist over the past 31 days.
However, the title of ‘Most Streamed Song of 2023’ was not awarded to Swift, but was instead bestowed upon fellow singer-songwriter Miley Cyrus, for her smash-hit “Flowers”, which totalled 1.6 billion streams over the course of the year.
Elsewhere, in the UK, the most streamed song was a collaboration between British rappers: Dave and Central Cee, for the song “Sprinter”, which has been streamed nearly 500 million times since its release on the 1st of June, 2023.
