Romanians, Italians and Poles have submitted the majority of settled status applications to remain in Birmingham after Brexit, newly released Home Office data shows.

In total, 151,220 applications were handed in by citizens from the 27 European Union member states between August 2018 and June 2022.

Romanians lead the way with 37,100 applications, followed by Italians (16,320) and Poles (14,000).

Liechtenstiners, Luxembourgers, and Icelanders submitted the fewest, 0, 10 and 20, respectively.

The data shows, 63,020 applications were granted settled status, 70,020 were assigned pre-settled status and 11,400 were refused. The rest were designated void or withdrawn.

People who hold a successful application can stay in the UK indefinitely.
