Club chairman Gary Vella is hoping new coach Jemiah Richards can help kick start another promotion fight.

Gary Vella is delighted by Jemiah Richards’ appointment

Racing Club Warwick added ex-footballer and teacher Jemiah Richards to their staff last week and chairman Vella is counting the days until his impact can be seen.

The Walsall man, who lectures in sports at Dudley College, has joined the Warwickshire side as their first-team coach.

Vella, who has been chairman since 2015, spoke of his reasons behind bringing him in. He said: “The club is delighted to bring Jemiah on board. I know him as a player and we feel he can bring a higher level of playing experience to the squad. His enthusiasm and the fact he is a lecturer all adds up.”

Warwick won promotion to the Midland League Premier Division last year, finishing second in Division One. Jason Pyott’s side have huge aspirations for the next few seasons, as Gary Vella outlines, saying: “The goals for this club are clear. Another promotion is the next two seasons is the main goal. We hope to be challenging for the top four spots.”

He highlighted the club’s academy as a reason they can push on, saying: “We have an established academy and a new philosophy, pathways to ensure we utilise everything available to us. We provide superb opportunities for our youth players.”

On COVID-19, which has seen football pause worldwide, Vella said: “It’s obviously difficult for everybody but we have a robust system in place that will weather this unprecedented time. We can all come back together as one.”

Jemiah Richards, a former player with the likes of Redditch United and Stafford Rangers, is due to team up with manager Jason Pyott and assistant Ivor Lawton when the effects of the illness die down.
