Birmingham Eastside was given exclusive access to film the Birmingham Rep opera Quilt Song — and you can now watch the video here.
The “opera for people who don’t do opera”, by Susie Self, explores themes of discrimination and human rights.
It includes characters based on Rosa Parks, who famously refused to give up her place on the bus in the United States in 1955 and became a focus for the Civil Rights movement, and MP Jo Cox, the British Labour MP who was murdered in June 2016.
The opera was performed at the Birmingham Old Rep theatre in October 2018. It was filmed by BA Media Production students at Birmingham City University. You can find out more about the production in our behind-the-scenes video.
Susie Self is a PhD student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
