Professional boxer Tyler Christopher carried on his unbeaten record on Saturday night with a victory over Carl Turney.

The Bermudian, who now fights out of Birmingham, recorded his third successive win in what turned out to be an extremely one-sided contest at Villa Park’s Holte Suite.

Christopher utilised his rapid jab to great effect throughout the four rounds, catching his counterpart on a consistent basis while dictating the pace of the fight.

Turney offered little offensively aside from a few right overhands and spent the majority of the bout resiliently defending his opponent’s onslaught.

He was also deducted points in the first round for holding, but the Englishman held out well to take the decision into the judges’ hands.

Christopher said: “I’m frustrated I couldn’t find the finish. I felt it was coming and maybe with one more round it would have done.

Christopher wins his third successive bout via unanimous Decision

“He’s a veteran and he knew what he was doing. He kept holding me especially towards the end when I really grew into the fight.

“I’m annoyed, but obviously still really happy with the win.”

The final round saw a frenzy of punches thrown by the Bermudian as he looked to finish the fight early, which jeered an already amplified crowd on even further.

A lead uppercut landed for Christopher into his opponent’s abdomen causing him to fall to the ground, something the judges surprisingly saw as a slip rather than a knockdown.

The 26-year-old encountered a slight issue with composure towards the end, something he also experienced in his first professional bout against Josh Hodgins last year.

He continued: “I was too dominant. With these journeymen you need to be able to cover up and give them some false security.

“That way, I find an opening to throw my punches, but if I’m too dominant, it’s hard to get a shot off because they’re so defensive.”
