A leading Birmingham City podcaster has cited Lee Bowyer’s no-nonsense man-management as the key to their survival.
The club were lying fourth from bottom in the Championship with just ten games to go when the new boss took over. However, the club went on an exceptional run to ensure their Championship status.
“Why would he be leaving Charlton to go to Birmingham, who are fourth from bottom.
“He could be taking the team down.”- Simon Jordan, talkSPORT
Boywer set up his Blues side in a 4-4-2 system, and within minutes, Lukas Jutkiewicz gave them the lead, and from then on, Birmingham didn’t look back.
Despite a loss to Watford the following week, his side then went on a six game unbeaten run, beating two relegation rivals in Rotherham and Derby in the process.
Victory over the Rams confirmed survival.
Mark Watson is a lifelong Birmingham City fan and the host on the ‘Fat Lads Go In Goal’ podcast.
He believes Blues will prosper next season.
He said: “Lee Bowyer has undoubtedly saved our season through unrivalled man-management, a no-nonsense attitude and instilling confidence in the basics.
“We seem to be a completely different team to the one that was relegation fodder in March and there’s a real buzz about next season.”
Bowyer has already outlined his plans and aims for next campaign.
“I want to guide them away from that (relegation battle) and that is my aim next year.
“It’s the right move for me because I needed a challenge, and this is definitely that.”- Lee Bowyer in an interview with ChronicleLive.
