Aston Villa fans have spoken of their delight following the arrival of Argentina midfielder Emi Buendia from Norwich City.

Villa agreed a deal with Norwich for the playmaker earlier this week, with a fee reported to be £40 million if potential add-ons are reached.

The deal will be completed after he has finished his obligations with the Argentina National Team.

Mo Razzaq, a member of the Aston Villa Supporters Trust, was thrilled by the signing.

He said: “It shows the intent from our owners that we want to build on were we finished last season.

“It shows our intent. We’re progressing, we’re growing.”

Aston Villa finished 11th in the Premier League last season, a disappointing position given they had spent much of the season in the top half, pushing for European Qualification.

The absence of skipper and talisman Jack Grealish for much of the second half of the season was a significant factor in Villa’s dip in form.

Mr Razzaq hopes the new man will take some pressure of Grealish’s shoulders.

He said: “When Jack was out we suffered with that creativity and I think this is what Buendia will add. He is that creative link we have missed when Jack was out.”

Buendia arrives at Villa Park after being crowned the Championship Player of the Season in a season where he scored 15 goals and got 16 assists.

He leaves the Carrow Road having won two Championship Titles with Norwich and earning rave reviews in his only Premier League season to date.

Villa have broken their transfer record for the third summer in a row to bring in the Argentine.
