Former West Brom striker Lee Hughes will retire from football at the end of the season.
The 45-year old has been playing for Midland League Premier Division side Stourport Swifts since October.
Hughes has scored five goals for the club since his arrival, with the team currently sitting in 13th in the table.
Hughes, who had two spells with West Brom between 1997 and 2004, made 211 appearances and scoring 90 goals for the club, also featuring in the First Division PFA Team of the Year for the 1998-99 season due to being the leading goal scorer across all four tiers of the Football League.
Swifts manager Quentin Townsend praised his contribution, saying: “I’d say his strike rate is as good as it’s ever been.
“He can’t get though a full 90 minutes, we’re trying to protect him given his age, but he certainly still has enough of an impact when he’s on the field”
The striker once cost then-First Division Coventry City £5m in 2001, scoring 15 goals in 42 appearances for the Sky Blues.
Townsend also credited Hughes’ commitment to football, adding: “I think Lee is very much one of a kind.
“When he first came in we said, let’s do a month and see how we both feel about it, and come the end of that month he was turning to me and saying ‘I’m really enjoying it, can I stay until the end of the season’, so it’s good, we must be doing something right.
“From our point of view, he’s still doing the business and showing he can, but I know he is officially due to retire at the end of this season so this is really his swansong.”
West Bromwich Albion Former Player’s Association secretary Geoff Snape also paid tribute to Hughes, adding: “He was a terrific striker with no ego.
“He was very consistent and gave 100% each time he went on the park. He’s popular with Albion fans and someone the former player’s association see from time to time, he loves to watch his football with Albion mates amongst the Albion supporters. To play for the team you and your family supported must be considered a huge honour.”
Hughes will make his final bow in his testimonial match, arranged for 25th June at Redditch United, with fellow former professionals taking part, such as Gareth Barry, Lee Hendrie, Darren Moore and Bob Taylor.
