How likely are you to land a media job in Birmingham?

If you’ve been scanning job sites for a media job in Birmingham, have you seen your options shrink in the last few months?

New data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows a fall in the number of jobs advertised online in the Arts, Culture and Media sectors in Birmingham.

Analysis of online job advertisements data in the last five years shows that while there was an increase in the number of media jobs even during the pandemic months of April 2020 to December 2021, there was a gradual decrease in the number of jobs between January 2022 and October 2022.

The ONS data, based on web-scraping software by Textkernel, downloads live job advertisement information from approximately 90,000 job boards and recruitment pages.

Data on labour demand by profession and local authority reveals a similar drop in the number of job advertisements in 2022 in the marketing, communications and public relations sectors.
