Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish started his first competitive match for England in the Nations League versus Belgium last night.
England lost the game 2-0 but Grealish shone throughout and has left pundits and fans across the country impressed by his talents.
World number one Belgium scored two goals in the first-half, Youri Tielemans grabbing the first and Dries Mertens the second.
Despite the underwhelming performance by the Three Lions, there was much reason for optimism after the final whistle as the Midlands star was on the receiving end of never-ending praise. Pundits such as Jamie Redknapp and Ashley Cole likened the Villa captain to that of England legend Paul Gascoigne.
Grealish continued to run at Belgium’s world-class defence, creating opportunities for England captain Harry Kane and others. One particular display of immense skill epitomised his confidence at this current time.
I spoke to Heart of the Holte’s Dan Morgan about his thoughts on the Villa star’s performance, he said: “I thought Grealish shone as all Villa fans knew he was destined to do at the top level. We’re witnessing a truly world class player who has proved now he is more than capable of mixing with the juggernauts of international football. Both Thomas Meunier and Axel Witsel had no idea what hit them when Grealish glided past them with ease. Grealish is now at a level where he’s frequently making a mockery of some of the greatest in the world week in week out. There is simply no one like him in the world.”
