Former Blues boss makes St. Andrew’s return

Former Birmingham City boss Garry Monk returns to St. Andrew’s this weekend for the second time since being sacked by the Blues in 2019.

New manager Aitor Karanka will be hoping his Birmingham City side can remain unbeaten as they take on Monk’s Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship.

Blues’ last win came in the first game of the season against last year’s play-off finalists Brentford and since then have drawn their other three games.

As for The Owls have won one, drawn two and lost one but sit bottom of the table on minus seven points due to the 12 points deducted at the start of the season.

Ahead of Saturday’s fixture, Karanka emphasised how important every member of the squad is this season. He said: “Everybody is going to be important because it is impossible to achieve something in this league with just 13, 14 or 16 players.”

Last season in this fixture neither side came out on top, with both games ending in draws. Monk will be hoping to secure his first win over Blues since being sacked.
