Police officers have discovered a large cannabis unit on Maybrook Road in Sutton Coldfield after an electrical warrant was conducted on an industrial unit.

The incident occurred shortly before 2pm on October 6th. Officers found approximately 1500 plants and the whole crop is worth up to £1.5million.

Sergeant Adrian Cox from the Sutton Coldfield Neighbourhood Priority Team said: “This is a significant find and not the kind of activity the community of Walmley would expect to find on their doorstep.

“I would also like to reassure the community we are dedicated to investigating and disrupting those who choose to embark in this kind of criminal behaviour and encourage anyone to report any suspicious behaviour to us.”

James, 22, from Birmingham, expressed his concerns about the police’s focus: “The police should focus on policing the pandemic instead of shutting down a cannabis factory.

“From working in healthcare, I feel as though there has been an increase in cases of both attempted suicides and domestic violence.

“With suicide rates increasing, as well as domestic violence, more police should be encouraging people to seek help (which I feel there has been a lack of) if they feel unsafe in their own home.”

The police ask anyone with information to contact them via live chat on their website or by calling 101, using quote log number 2356 of 06/10.
