Birmingham tennis ace Dan Evans pulled off a confident performance at Wimbledon to beat Argentine Federico Delbonis in straight sets 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.
The 29-year-old, currently ranked 61st in the ATP world rankings, was in stunning form in the grass court after winning at Surbiton and Nottingham last month.
He cruised through the opening set with no much trepidation breaking the opponents serve in crucial times.
The second set was highly contested by both players holding their nerve throughout, resulting in a tiebreaker which Evans won 7-5. He later broke the serve of Delbonis yet again and took the final set 5 -3 along with the match which lasted for two hours and 16 minutes.
“It’s great, obviously I haven’t won here for a little while and it’s great to have a win,” he said.
“The crowd was great, and they really help the British players and its always great to come back and play Wimbledon on such good courts.”
