A Birmingham-bound train was forced to make an emergency stop this morning after smoke began billowing from it.
The Cross Country Trains service was heading from Manchester when the incident happened at 8am.
Passengers were forced to evacuate the train during an emergency stop in Stafford.
A spokesperson for Cross Country Trains said the smoke was caused by an issue with a stuck brake pad.
“Customers were not in any danger as train and station staff acted quickly and cautiously,” they said.
“We apologise for any delays caused to passengers today as a result.”
Commuters took to social media during the incident to express their frustration:
Just been evacuated off the @crosscountryuk train at Stafford and had to change trains! #scary
