A Birmingham resident has celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family at an Erdington care home.

Olive Masters marked the milestone at Priestley Rose Care Home.

She was born in Lawley Street in 1923 before growing up in Lea Hall. She went on to work as an engineer on a soldering bench at Power and Hammers as part of the war effort.

Olive, who also worked for the Evening Despatch newspaper as a crossword composer, was married to her husband Richard before his death in the 1970s.

Anitha Mathew, manager at Priestley Rose Care Home, said: “We are delighted to celebrate Olive’s 100th birthday, acknowledging her journey and the invaluable contributions she has made to our local community throughout the years.

“Olive’s infectious happiness and easy-going nature have endeared her to all who have had the pleasure of knowing her.

“Her long and joyous life is an inspiration to us all.”
