West Midlands Stories is a collection of documentaries and features produced by students from the Birmingham School of Media.
This second edition of documentaries and features focuses on music. We start with a documentary called Vinyl Revival about the enduring qualities of LP’s. Next is Song Writing 101 – before we hear a feature on The Listening Sessions, held each month in Digbeth, and finally a documentary on the ongoing popularity of Northern Soul at the Night Owl club.
The series draws together an eclectic range of stories from across the West Midlands, tackling contemporary issues, introducing unique characters and showcasing the region’s rich cultural history.
The first season of West Midlands Stories was broadcast in 2012 on Switch 107.5 in Castle Vale, North Birmingham and went on to win the Bronze award in the Community Radio category of the New York Radio Awards.
The series has now relocated to Birmingham Eastside Radio, with an all-new season of documentaries, hosted by Matt Barnard and Georgia Price.
