The French horn player, who was the first woman to join the brass section of the Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra, will take up the role of International Chair of Brass.

Sarah, who also presents a German TV programme, said her passion for music education made the role a perfect fit for her.

“I am thrilled to have been asked to be the new International Chair of Brass at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire,” she said.

“Music education and music communication are two things about which I am most passionate and I look forward to developing new and exciting projects.”

Sarah was born in the USA before living in Tokyo and Moscow as a child. She then settled in London, taking up the French horn at 14.

Amos Miller, Head of Brass at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, said: “I am so excited that Sarah Willis has agreed to be our International Chair of Brass.

“She is one of the most dynamic and forward-thinking musicians on the planet, who has a truly special and inclusive gift at communicating the joy that is music.”
