A leading expert in cryptocurrency has been appointed as the world’s first Professor of Blockchain.
Birmingham City University has named Olinga Taeed as Visiting Professor of Blockchain at the institution’s Faculty of Business, Law and Social Sciences.
Prof Taaed said he was surprised the appointment had been a world first.
“The Visiting Professorship in Blockchain is the first of its kind which, frankly, is remarkable given the rapidly burgeoning sector of distributed ledger technologies, tokenisation and cryptocurrencies,” he said.
Blockchain is the technology that underpins digital currency, such as Bitcoin, allowing digital information to be distributed.
Prof Taaed is the author of 12 white papers on blockchain and is director of the not-for-profit Centre for Citizenship, Enterprise and Governance.
