More than 3,000 seasonal jobs are being created by Amazon in the Midlands.

The online retailer revealed it had begun recruiting for the Rugeley and Coventry fulfilment centres ahead of the busy Christmas period.

The jobs are part of 20,000 it is creating across the UK.

Stefano Perego, Amazon’s director of UK customer fulfilment, said: “We prepare year round for the festive season and we’re excited to have seasonal positions available this year.

“We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year-after-year to work at Amazon and welcome new faces to the seasonal team.”

The announcement follows the news that Amazon was upping the company’s minimum wage to £9.50.

Nicola Fyfe, the company’s regional director, said: “We look forward to welcoming more than 3,000 seasonal workers in the Midlands to play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers during the Christmas season.”
