Police Chief visits South & City College

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, David Jamieson visited South and City College in Birmingham to see some of the training programmes available to young people from the West Midlands.

The Commissioner said:

“The West Midlands is a diverse area, and it is important for the police to look like the people it polices. We have seen a real uptake in the numbers of Black and Asian applicants to the force, and all are welcomed. The standard of applications were exceptional and the force needs the best recruits from all communities, so that it may effectively protect and engage with them.”

This was followed by a Q and A session where students asked the Commissioner questions about crimes which were prevalent in inner city Birmingham as well as what the public could do to help reduce and tackle crime in their communities.

West Midlands Armed Response Unit members and Becky Taylor from the Forensics department also addressed the seminar.
