Man left in a coma after Bank Holiday Monday fight in Birmingham street

A 20-year-old man is fighting for his life after being attacked in Birmingham in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

Police believe he hit his head while falling after being hit. They say his condition has deteriorated and is now in an induced coma after the incident on Ladywell Walk.

He was attacked at around 4.15am when two groups of men became involved in a confrontation. Two other men suffered minor injuries.

Detective Inspector Tom Hadley said: “The attack happened at a busy time and we know that lots of people were in the area enjoying a night out over the bank holiday weekend.

“We’ve already spoken to a number of witnesses, but I know there are many more who haven’t yet come forward and I’d urge them to do so as soon as possible.

“This is a very serious incident where a young man has been left with severe head injuries. We are working hard to piece together the evidence we have, but we are also aware that some people may have taken photos or video of the incident and I’d ask anyone who has any footage to get in touch.

“If you were there, or believe you know who was involved, or have any other information which may assist our enquiry – no matter how small, please share this with us so we can find those responsible and prevent this from happening again.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting crime number 20BW/185025M/17.
