Man arrested in Nechells in connection with knifepoint robberies at Birmingham and Solihull betting shops

A man has been arrested in connection with a series of knifepoint robberies at betting shops across Birmingham and Solihull.

The 39-year-old was held after a police raid on a flat in Nechells.

He is being questioned over six robberies in the space of 19 days at shops in Warley, Balsall Common, Yardley, Streetly and Olton.

Detective Constable Dave Cockbill, from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: “No-one was injured during these offences but they were clearly shocking for the staff members involved as they were threatened with a large knife.

“We’re determined to tackle knife crime across the region – and anyone found in possession of a knife needs to understand there’s a strong chance they will be imprisoned.”
