Residents to celebrate relaunch of Kingstanding Library

Residents will celebrate the relaunch of Kingstanding Library today (August 1st).

The facility has been refurbished as part of a partnership between Birmingham City Council and the Witton Lodge Community Association.

There had initially been fears the library could close as part of wider cuts to services across the city.

But the relaunch – which takes place between 2pm and 5pm today – marks a turnaround in fortunes for the Kingstanding venue.

Cllr Keith Linnacor said: “It’s a great opportunity to have a look around the library and see what’s coming up over the summer holidays for kids and adults alike.

“As councillors we have met with the Witton Lodge Community Association who really value their local services, and that’s why they have worked with Birmingham City Council Libraries Team and ourselves to help keep our local libraries open for longer hours and provide extra services within them.

“They have done some great work and have been busy at Kingstanding Library, painting the outside of the building, so that the outside matches the recently refurbished interior, and will be delivering lots of activities and services over the coming weeks.”

Today’s events will feature free arts and crafts sessions for children and advice on issues such as housing and jobs. There will also be an opportunity to find out about the area’s contribution to The Big Sleuth project – Wyrley McBear Face.
