Athletes from Jamaica and the USA have attended a civic service in their honour at Birmingham Cathedral.

Teams from both nations have been based in the city for training camps ahead of the IAAF World Championships in London.

The service, which was led by Rev Canon Andrew Lythall, was also attended by the Lord Mayor Of Birmingham, Councillor Anne Underwood and the Vice Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Beverly Lindsay OBE OD, as well as other dignitaries.

Athletes and coaches from both countries were given the best wishes of the city for the forthcoming competition.

The Lord Mayor said the group were “role models to people in the city and around the world”.
