Woman anaesthetised at the scene of Northfield crash after suffering serious head injury

A woman had to be anaesthetised at the roadside after suffering serious injuries after a crash in Northfield.

A Corsa and a Jaguar were involved in the incident on Shenley Lane at 6am today (July 19th).

The 20-year-old woman driving the Corsa was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other driver was uninjured.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a small blue car with substantial damage to the driver’s side and a Jaguar car with front nearside damage.

“The driver of the blue car was initially unconscious.  She was being helped by an off-duty GP and a police officer who was holding her neck still.

“Ambulance staff worked with firefighters to extricate the woman.  After assessment, she was anaesthetised by the doctor and taken to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with a suspected head injury.”

The road has remained closed while investigations continue.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: “We are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact us. This is a busy junction and, although it was early, I am sure there were other motorists on the road at that time.”
