A Birmingham band has seen their debut single reach number four in the UK’s Viral Spotify playlist.
Riscas, a four-piece indie group who formed last April, released their single Panic like Tom which has since received over 110,000 streams on the online service.
The band were also recently chosen as BBC’s Introducing artist of the week and the single was added to BBC Radio 1’s daytime playlist at the start of this month.
The song since has been played and received praise from Radio 1 presenters Greg James, Alice Levine, Adele Roberts and Dev.
Riscas’ lead guitarist Tom Barker said: “It’s honestly hard to even believe now, when we put the track up it was just a demo to get something out for people to listen to, so having it picked up by Radio One and seeing the reactions it’s had has taken us by surprise. We’re so grateful.
“When we’d written the song we knew it was something special, for us as at least, as it was the best thing we’d done at the time, but we didn’t expect it to do what it`s done.”
The band is currently working on their EP, and their debut single is expected to be released on 1st June.
Andrew Marston, presenter at BBC Music Introducing, said he chose the band due to the amount of potential they have.
“They’ve been writing some very, shiny catchy pop songs for the last few months and they have showed so much promise that when putting together my weekly programme on Hereford and Worcester they just really cut through,” he said.
“I remember first listening to the song and thinking they would fit perfectly for Radio One’s playlist.
“Within about half-a-week of playing the song I received an email saying the music team really love them and we were going to give them the opportunity.”
