Internationally renowned chef and TV personality Atul Kochhar is to open a new Indian restaurant in Birmingham. His new premises will open in the Mailbox in in September.
Kochhar, who is a regular on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, was awarded a Michelin Star in 2007 for his London restaurant Benares. He will now join fellow award winning Chef Tom Aitkens in the up market shopping precinct.

In an interview with The Birmingham Mail back in 2011 he said:
“I have always loved Birmingham, and I would love to open in the city when the time is right”
It appears that the time is now as Aitkens, confirmed that his friend Atul is coming to town.

Born in Jamshedpur in India, Kochhar learned his trade in hotel kitchens. In January 2001, he was awarded his first Michelin Star for his restaurant, Tamarind. His second came with Benares.
He then embarked on a successful media career. As well as Saturday Kitchen, he also features on Great British Menu and Masterchef Goes Large. He is also a best selling author, having written several books celebrating Indian Cuisine.
