A woman has died this afternoon after falling from the balcony of Birmingham Library on Broadstreet.
Shoppers reported witnessing the woman falling at around 12pm today, calling the emergency services, police and ambulance crews arrived on the scene shortly after where paramedics attempted to save the woman’s life, before pronouncing her dead at the scene of the incident.
West Midlands Police and Ambulance Service have confirmed that they were called to the Library at around midday today for an incident involving a woman falling at the location. The police confirmed that the victim’s family has been informed.
Jacqui Kennedy, Acting Strategic Director for Place at Birmingham City Council, said:
“We can confirm there was an incident at the Library of Birmingham this morning, in which a woman tragically died.
We are co-operating with the police in their investigation of the incident and we are also offering support to library staff and those working at the café who may have been affected by the incident.”
